U.S. Coast Guard Cape May, NJ Trip Friday September 19 – Sunday September 21, 2025
After trying to get in since last year, we have successfully secured the camping site reservation at the US Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May NJ!
Details
Camping right on base and eating in the mess hall with the “Coasties” (the name for the cadets or trainees). This means no scout cooking and no grubmaster fee!!
Tour of the base and training center, plus we’re on wait list to tour the cutter ships.
Climb the 1942 World War II Lookout Tower, where US forces defended the coast from German U Boats that were a mere few miles off the coast.
See the World War II Bunker and learn about its purpose and history of that area
Learn about of the shifting shoreline and the storm that wiped away an entire town
Find “Cape May diamonds”, see a concrete ship and find the “ghost tracks” (100 yr old rail track that were buried beneath the sand)
Walk the downtown and boardwalk for ice cream and souvenirs (Bring Money!)
Campfire Fri night (weather and arrival time dependent)
Tour the Wildwood Naval Air Station on Sunday
Lunch at Lobster House Take Out. (Bring Money!)

Cost: $50 per scout. Includes 3 meals Sat and breakfast on Sun. (no Grubmaster fee. BYO dinner Fri night for the drive). Bring money to buy Ice Cream on Saturday and lunch on Sunday.

Annual Scout Cub-O-Ree - Friday, October, 10 - Sunday, October 12
We are camping at Cub-o-Ree this year. We will depart the Scout Cabin at 6 pm on Friday. Everyone will be sleeping in Tents this weekend. The event begins at 9 am on Saturday and will run till 3:30 pm. The troop will host the Cub Scout Pack for lunch, so patrols will be responsible for a hot breakfast on Saturday, Saturday dinner and a cold breakfast on Sunday. Parents should plan on picking up their scouts at Parkside Place no later than 9 am on Sunday morning, we will not be driving back to the Scout Cabin.

Cost covers: Patch and Lunch

Annual Thanksgiving Camping Trip and Feast - Friday, November 14 - Sunday, November 16
Location: Memorial Lodge at Camp Ockanickon
Departure time: 6 pm from the Scout Cabin
Approx. Return time: 10 am to the Scout Cabin
Uniform: Class A's for travel to and from the campground. Class B's for the rest of the weekend.
Cost: $20
Cost covers: Dinner (Thanksgiving Feast) on Saturday, Cabin Rental, and (hopefully) Shooting time at either the Rifle Range or the Shotgun Range on Saturday.
Cost doesn’t include: Breakfast on Sat or Sun, Dinner on Friday, Lunch on Saturday. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided by each patrol. Pay your grubmaster!
Bring: Camping gear, water bottle, mess kits, scoutbook, warm weather clothes.

Annual Game Night at the Cabin - Friday, December 12 - Saturday, December 13
Arrive at Cabin with gear at 8:30 pm on Friday. Pick up from the Cabin at 8:30 am on Saturday.
Cost: $10 (Covers pizza, snacks, drinks and breakfast on Saturday.)
Wear: Comfy clothes
What to bring: Sleeping bag, pillow, any games/equipment you want to play/share with the troop. Games must be age-appropriate.
We need the following parent helpers:
2 chaperones (stays the entire time, sleeps in cabin, does not have to pay the $10 cost up above)
Person to pick up pizza and deliver to cabin at 8:30 pm on Friday night, (Just picking up, will be paid for ahead of time)
Person to buy donuts/bagels/breakfast and bring to cabin at 7 am on Saturday (can be reimbursed, just submit receipts to Chris Siegler)
Hiking and Caving Adventure Campout, Friday, May 15 - Sunday, May 17
We will be camping at Caledonia State Park in the organized group camping area.
On Saturday morning we will explore Peiper Cave. This is a wild cave, which means scouts will be crawling through very tight spaces and will get VERY MUDDY. Everyone must have a headlamp for the cave. The cave guides can accommodate 30 people maximum, but caving is optional. If caving is not for you, there will be a group going on a 5-mile hike.

Departure: Friday 5:30 PM from the Scout Cabin
Return: Sunday 1 PM
Uniform: Class A’s for Friday and Sunday
Full Cost: $55 per scout, $40 per adult
Cost without Caving: $15 per scout, Free per adult
Optional rental costs: $3 per person for knee pads and gloves, $10 per person for overalls
Cost covers: Camping fees and cave guides
Bring: Camping gear, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, chair, water bottle, compass, clothes for caving (they will get muddy), headlamp, sunscreen, hat, sweatshirt/jacket, scoutbook

Biking Adventure Campout, Friday, June 5 – Sunday, June 7
We will be camping at Hickory Run State Park in the organized group camping area.
On Saturday, we will ride the bike train from Jim Thorpe to White Haven and then bike 25 miles along the D&L Trail through the Lehigh Gorge State Park back to Jim Thorpe. The trail follows the river on a gentle downhill grade with stops for a picnic, exploring canal locks, and checking out the Penn Haven Planes.
On Sunday morning, we will hike over to the Boulder Field before heading home.
Location: Lehigh Gorge State Park (Biking), Hickory Run State Park (Camping)
Departure: Friday 5:30 PM from the Scout Cabin
Return: Sunday 1 PM
Uniform: Class B for Saturday, Class A for Friday and Sunday
Full Cost: $45 per person (train and campsite)
Optional Rental: $30 per person if you need to rent a bike
Cost Covers: Train tickets and camping fees
Bring: Bike and helmet, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, chair, water bottle, sunscreen, hat, weather-appropriate clothing/gear, Scoutbook
